Research Paper...

Research papers are not the most fun thing to write. Though I enjoy learning and uncovering questions I wonder about, I do not like all the rules that come along with writing a research paper. In high school my Advance Composition teacher had us write numerous research papers, each time increasing the number of papers. We worked a lot with research papers, how to construct them and all the rules needed to write one. She wanted to prepare us for college. For the reading I did out of our book I believe she did just that, prepared me for college papers. So even though I didn’t have a blast writing them I glad she made us do them. Now, I just have to remember everything she taught us when it’s time for me to write another one. I know one of the problems I have it deciding on a topic and narrowing it down enough to have a nice solid paper. That’s something I hope to work on a fix throughout the processes of writing the research paper. I’ve had both positive and some negative experience with research papers and, I’m sure I’ll have many more of those some experiences in the years I am in college.

Language...

After reading all of the articles I would have to say I'm in the middle about things. I agree with the fact that certain language or talk is acceptable in different environment. Such as, if you're with your friends you may or should talk different then when you're talking to a teacher or a boss. The one response that stood out to me was the one from the Dean of Williamson School. Her grammar and punctuation was all over the place and, also how she used no's instead of knows. This is the perfect example of when to use 'proper' English. She is the Dean of her school! What is this saying about her and the school she is working for?

I also agree with fact that people do judge you on how you speak and write. I guess you could say it's a natural thing to do. It gives you a little insight on who that person might be, what kind of education they've had and, possibly how mature and serious they are. Say you’re a mom and you're seeking a child care provider. Would you want someone who say "they was so good today" or someone who says "they were very good today?"

For me I know I talk differently and quite differently in different situations. When texting with a friend I may abbreviate or use acronyms such as, idk for I don't know or ttyl for talk to you later. But, if I were e-mailing a boss I would never use such language. In my writing I always try best to use ‘proper’ English, though I will admit I’m not the best at it.

So the reason why I said I was in the middle was because many articles were saying how languages change over time and they and other languages should be accepted, making language diverse. Having different languages around you can be a good thing. It can help you appreciate another language or bring people closer together by one wanting to learn another’s language. Language will always be changing and we should embrace it but, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a certain time and place for a certain kind of language or talk.

Multiculturalism?...Diversity?...

What is multiculturalism and diversity? Yes, I know there are the definitions from the dictionary but, is that really what everyone agrees with? And what does is mean in and for America? Again, I’m not sure if any one person can give me the right answer because every one person I would ask would give their own version of what they think it means. Does this helps us or hinder us? These are all questions I’m thinking about and would like to know the answer to. America is the land of the free, everyone and anyone is accepted. So, should these people be required to learn and speak English or is it ok for them not to? Why is it that some cultures or races feel they are not being treated with the same respects and deserve more than others? Honestly, I fell these questions may never truly be able to be answered because every one person will defend their options, beliefs and, culture. When will we be able to stop the disagreements and answer these few questions?
